The limited colour palette used in this print means it will sit well on a rich, dark blue wall or a restrained cream coloured wall.

The beauty of art prints on paper is that they can be further enhanced with your choice of frame and matte colour.

For instance; a cool white matte with a thin royal blue frame will look stunningly beautiful on a deep blue wall. Alternatively, you could add a cream coloured matte surrounded by a dark mahogany coloured frame for a traditional look.

Let's look at the artwork in a little more detail.

Using a clever colour palette of terracotta and blue this appears to be a simple study of the tightly packed pantile rooftops of York.

But, look more closely and you will see that the mass of roofs is offset with the inclusion of a crowd of tourist visitors seen in the open space of the Minster Yard which is visible at the foot of the composition.

Another detail, that is not immediately apparent, is that this view cannot be completely seen from the top of the York Minster tower because some of the buildings in the foreground are actually obscured by the tower itself. A bit of artist license  was employed to add them in to make the composition complete.

Obviously, a photographic reference was used but not slavishly copied. In fact there weren't any crowds of people present at the time. A camera equipped drone would have been very useful for this one!
