This is a big painting of an epic landscape in the sublime genre of landscape art.

I notice that the massive scale and chiaroscuro of the mountains is the first thing to grab the viewer's attention on first sight of this work. Closely followed by the discovery of the tiny, colourful figures seen at the bottom right of the canvas.

This juxtaposition of scale and colour is what really completes the picture and the artfulness of its concept.

As an artist, I am in awe of the power of greyscale monochrome art. That, coupled with the dynamism of the square format canvas, pays tribute to the suprematist black square of the Russian painter Malevich who I greatly admire.
